This is an illustrative interpretation of “Dona Dona,” a song written by Sholom Secunda and Aaron Zietlin in Yiddish in the 1940s. It was popularized by Joan Baez singing a beautiful translation of it, and has been used at protests for decades. This song is more meaningful to me than I can put into words, taught to me at Camp Kinderland by Ira Coleman-Palansky. He died in February, and despite not having seen him for several years, his love for music changed my life and how I think about stories. I wish I’d had the opportunity to tell him that. This piece is dedicated to him, and to his memory.
